As the NFL season draws to its end, two teams, one each from the AFC and NFC, will meet to face off for the sports ultimate prize, Super Bowl LIII.

On the 3rd of February 2019, the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams will battle it out at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Their goal, to get their hands on the prestigious Vince Lombardi trophy.

The excitement has escalated over America’s biggest sporting event of the year, with over 114.4 Million people tuning in to watch the 2018 Super Bowl, where the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the New England Patriots.

Viewership numbers this year are expected to rise further, meaning this game has everything to be just as good as Super Bowl 52.

So let’s take a look at this years host city. One that will definitely not disappoint. America’s own Heart of the South. Atlanta.

Atlanta is a city that is really rediscovering it’s groove. Fast becoming one of America’s top up and coming 'must visit' city destinations.

This is partly due to its unique culture and style not found in the East or West coast main cities that most tourist are likely to visit. Atlanta offers something completely different, lying in the North-West of the state of Georgia in the so called Deep South.

'The City in the Forest' is one of the names given to Atlanta, with it living up to this, as tree lined parks and open spaces everywhere across the city, giving it a green city feel.

The ol' southern charm still hangs over the city and gives it a special feel. But it’s also making room for a new hip modern Atlanta that’s really turning heads. Home to 5.8 million people, there’s a real buzz around this city that you should definitely experience.

 

Things to Do

The cities bar scene is not one to be missed, with streets full of packed bars of all kinds, from modern hip bars to old southern taverns full of life. You’ll find it hard to be bored, with a great music scene and live music dotted in bars all over the city.

If you’re a food lover then Atlanta is really a city for you. Home to great mix of southern soul comfort food and fiery Latino cuisine. It really is something to try with numerous restaurants and plenty to please everyone.

If you’re looking for something different to do while you’re in Atlanta, take a trip to the World of Coca-Cola attraction. A museum and all round experience dedicated to Atlanta’s favourite export. It’s a great day out between watching any big sporting event.

Atlanta’s is also home to arguably America’s best aquarium and the CNN media experience. Both worth a trip out.

On NFL game day, soak in the atmosphere as the city gears up for a weekend of celebration of American football and American culture. With events going on all over the city to immerse yourself in the feel of it all.

 

Sport in Atlanta

Atlanta has teams in several of the countries major sports such as American Football, Baseball, Basketball and Association Football, or as the Americans call it, Soccer.

The most successful team in the city is the Atlanta Braves baseball team who play in Major League Baseball. The Braves have 3 titles to their name, only winning one while located in Atlanta, with the previous two coming while the team was located in Boston, Massachusetts and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Atlanta Falcons almost brought the city their first Lombardi Trophy in 2017 when they faced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI. It wasn't to be however, with New England coming back from 25 points behind to clinch the trophy.

The cities most recent title came in the form on the MLS Cup, with Atlanta United currently the defending champions, having only being established in 2014.

Other popular sports in the city include Lacrosse, NASCAR and also Golf. Atlanta also has a team in the USA Rugby League, Atlanta Rhinos. The team are directly linked with Leeds Rhinos and won the Premiership in 2017.

 

The Stadium

The greatest game in American football will be played out in a brand new high tech stadium.

In August 2017 just outside of downtown Atlanta, one of the most high tech modern stadiums in the world was opened for the first time.

For the first time 74,000 people will make there way into the brand new $1.6 Billion Mercedes-Benz Arena to watch America’s, and arguably the worlds biggest sporting spectacle. And it doesn’t disappoint.

Designed in the style of a opening flower under the Georgia sun, it’s definitely a sight to behold. It’s futuristic retractable roof design makes it look like an alien spaceship has landed in the backdrop of the Atlanta skyline. The atmosphere on the big day is going to be electric and really one to remember for years to come.

 

Transport

With both London Heathrow and London Gatwick having direct flights to the city of Atlanta, now is the best time ever to take a trip.

You’ll fly into the Harts-Field Jackson International Airport just outside the city, with direct bus and train links into the city centre, you won’t be stranded.

The city itself has a metro system but also an overground tram system to get around the place. The metro system also gives you a direct link to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium where the big game will be played, it’s an easy ride.
